Transaction Graph Analysis (TGA)
tactic
Core idea
Maps fund flow between addresses as a directed graph, visualising transaction paths across hops. Reveals layering and consolidation points and forms the backbone of most blockchain investigations.
When to use
Initial mapping of any wallet-to-wallet movement; tracing proceeds from a hack, theft, or ransomware payment.
Avoid when
Graph output alone is not proof of control; corroborate with off-chain evidence before asserting ownership in court.
Example
Starting from a ransomware payout address, build the directed graph of outgoing transactions to spot where funds fan out (layering) and later re-consolidate before cash-out.
