OSINT Paints the Picture on the Transaction Jigsaw
principle
Core idea
On-chain transactions fit together like a jigsaw puzzle: they are binary facts that either happened or did not. Assembling every transaction onto a chart gives you the shape of the puzzle, but not its meaning. OSINT and research paint the picture on top, supplying the context that turns raw transfers into an understandable story.
When to use
Whenever a chart of asset flow looks complete but you still cannot explain why funds moved or who controls the addresses. That gap is the signal to switch from tracing to research.
Example
Following stolen assets through addresses shows movement, but only OSINT (an ENS name, a sanctioned counterparty, a social profile) reveals that an address belongs to a specific actor and why the transfers matter.
